A visual artist, he holds a degree from the Le Fresnoy Studio des Arts Contemporains in Tourcoing, France, 2008. He works with video art, cinema, and 3D animation. His work defies viewer perception and the building of contemporary images through recurrent themes like the environment, war, water, and metamorphosis, constantly toeing the line that separates dystopia from delirium. Resorting to digital video treatment, he builds an imagery composed of symbolical characters, modified architectures, and dream-like objects and landscapes. Grecu’s videos have been shown at festivals and exhibitions including the Clermont Ferrand Short Film Festival in France (2012 and 2009); the Rotterdam International Film Festival in the Netherlands (2012, 2010, 2009 and 2008); Mois de la Photographie in Paris, France (2010); the Festival Nouveau Cinéma de Montréal in Canada (2008); the Grand Palais in Paris, France (2008); the Locarno International Film Festival in Switzerland (2007); and others. Mihai Grecu lives and works in Paris.
