He started taking singing lessons at age nine with José Antonio Amunátegui, and went on singing in choirs and chamber music groups with Concepción Martorell up until 1983. Afterwards he studied classical guitar at Escuela Moderna de Música, and arranging as well as conducting at Centro de Estudios de Música Popular, with Guillermo Riffo. In 1990 he released his first album as a composer, Bajo la Luna, on the Ediciones Paulinas label. In that same year he coordinated the X Concierto de Oraciones for Radio Concierto, after which he interrupted his musical activities in order to study psychology. In 2000, he founded the group Uqbar, which was dedicated to various artistic activities, such as performance, installation and experimental music. His work at Uqbar resulted in four independent recordings: Tu Sangre Me Hierve, in 2003; Bucólica Abyecta; La Extinción de la Patria; and Reensamble de la Memoria, all in 2004. He participated in the 3rd Encuentro de Fotógrafos en Valparaíso, with Marcela Barahona; and in the Contemporany Dance Festival in Puerto Montt, 2003, with Mauricio Barahona.
