Experimental video maker, documentary film editor and university professor. He was awarded a degree in Audiovisual Communication in 1991 from Instituto Arcos. Shortly after graduating, he started serving as assistant professor at the university. He completed a Master of Fine Arts degree with a major in Video Art at the College of Visual and Performing Arts at the United States’ Syracuse University. As an artist, he made experimental short films, took part in installation works and worked as a stage designer. His works have been shown in numerous solo and group exhibits in Santiago, Buenos Aires, São Paulo, New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, Tel Aviv, Locarno, Beirut, Amsterdam and other cities. Cifuentes has won prizes from Fundación Andes and Fondart. He was a founding member of Asociación de Cortometrajistas de Chile (the Chilean short film makers association), a curator for exhibitions and a juror for video art contests (including the Kent Explora). He stage-designed Cristian Soto’s play Contacto en Santiago High Tech. Highlight documentary works include Gente al Límite and Pachaiki. He has taught at Instituto Arcos, Universidad de Chile, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Universidad Arcis and at Uniacc, in Santiago.
