Looking at São Paulo at the outset of this century, the artist summarizes, in a direct, objective way, the latent racial problem that has haunted Brazilian society since its establishment, and particularly after the consolidation of a slave-based structure in colonial Brazil. This question engenders problems and taboos that remain urgent in Brazil today, like issues of origin, gender and class. The documentary, shot in black and white, capitalizes on the speech and gestures of its characters to evince the discomfort that the subject matter reveals when personified. A comprehensive, intense depiction of the nuances of the plural, unequal city that is São Paulo in the 21st century, the video configures itself as the epitome of a perverse socially introjected problem, in a denunciation as obvious as it is revealing.
