Beirut Caoutchouc

Modern Lebanon is a small republic, encompassing an area of 10,452 Km2, with a population of approximately 2 million of inhabitants. Its terrain is composed mostly of rugged slopes and two mountain chains, the Anti-Lebanon and the Mount Lebanon, which run parallel to the coast from the northeast to the southwest. The Beka’a Valley lies in between the two chains. The eastern borders are defined by the Anti-Lebanon mountain chain. Meanwhile, the Mount Lebanon chain slopes in some areas, inclining directly to the sea and fracturing the narrow coastal plain into a number of parts, isolating them from each other. Beirut, the capital, is situated on the center of the largest of these coastal parts, splits the coast into two, almost equal parts. “Beirut Caoutchouc”, a floor piece, is a detailed color vinyl map of Beirut. It is placed on the central exhibition space and visitors will be able to walk on it.
