According to the artist, “technology is a contemporary abstraction.” From this perspective, Carlos Mélo speaks on his piece Sobre Humano, featured in the 18th edition of the Southern Panoramas show. Made from ox bones, the piece is part of a series entirely built around the animal’s image. The piece takes the shape of a staircase and is conceived as a moving body, which hints at the possibility of multiple compositions, a “body of fugue,” as he puts it. He also touches on his fascination with what he calls the magical world contained in nature, the use of natural elements as a way to come into contact with this part of reality, and the predisposition of human beings to create images. Having built a career as a video artist, he comments on his curiosity in participating in a Festival with a non-video piece.
