Identity, Sexuality and Politics

Ximena Cuevas is one of Mexico's best known videoartists. Her work, often highlighting the intimate nature and immediacy of video, deals with socialconstructs that condition and determine identity, sexuality and politics.

Cuevas is obsessed with the impossibility of reality. Her work relentlessly seeks out the layers of lies covering the everyday representations of reality and systematically explores the fictions of national identity and gender. It redefines the meaning of documentary.
