Visual artist, trained in photography at the Market Photo Workshop, Johannesburg, and Escola Asiko, Maputo. In her work with video, performance, photography, installation, object and book, Kala underscores the (absent) multiplicity of narratives within historical periods and social relationships, using her personal memories as a starting point. She has taken part in several international residencies, such as Villa Albertine, New York (2022–2023) and was the recipient of the ADAGP/Villa Vassilieff Grant (2019). She has presented a performance at Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, France (2021, 2019); and Centre d'Art Contemporain, Noisy-le-Sec, France. Her works have been shown in exhibitions at the ARoS Museum, Aarhus, Denmark (2021); the Stellenbosch Triennale, South Africa (2020); and at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin, Germany (2019). She lives in Paris.
