Visual artist. She studied Painting at the Kharkov Institute of Industrial Art, Ukraine, and Graphic Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York, USA, and holds a master’s degree in Sculpture from the Virginia Commonwealth University, USA. Slinko works with various media, including drawing, sculpture, photography, video, performance and objects that frequently include installations. She is interested in the transformation of sociopolitical actions into cultural forms, and in expressions of daily resistance within postcolonial hegemonic narratives. At different levels, the artist explores the notion of contradiction, both in her approach of ideological issues and her arrangement of the materials she uses, employing strong ironic overtones and elements from her childhood in Soviet Union. She has exhibited at galleries and venues across the USA, including the Socrates Sculpture Park, New York (2011); Vox Populi, Philadelphia (2011); Soap Factory, Minneapolis (2011); and others. Slinko won the Jacob K. Javits Fellowship and undertook residencies in the USA and Morocco. She lives and works in New York.
