Nathan Mpangala is lagging behind in the field of Animation. This makes it necessary for local television station to use children animation programs made from abroad especially Europe and America. In Tanzania we have over five television stations, unfortunately programs do not match with local environments and aspects. So I sold an idea to Tanzania Movement with children to see if I can get a chance on The African Child Day Anniversary to display my cartoons focusing child on issues of poverty, education and gender. Successful completion of the course would lay a strong foundation in the key areas of my specialization. This would in turn enable me to secure and hold down a key position in a lifelong career in Tanzania. With the experience I would gain from this, I could due course of time be able to establish my own company dealing with Animation. My long-term goals are compiling all my works in forms of books. Second, becoming an animation cartoonist. I was starting working professionally in local newspapers two years later after finishing Fine Art Course in 1992. In early years, comic was my favourite. 'Kijasti' was my first character. 'Kijasti' started to appear in local newspapers six years ago. In 1999 I open up myself in a new phase, whereby I started doing editorial cartoons as freelance cartoonist. I have been also working closely with different publishers as an illustrator. This year, in collaboration with local base organization HakiElimu we published the educational campaign booklet called QUALITY EDUCATION, BUT…. A book has 50 cartoons drawn by me. I decided to apply for the summer workshop 2004 in order to get skills of animation so that can be easily for me to contribute my talent to the animation sector based on Rights and Welfare of the Child. I believe myself as committed and hard worker cartoonist to participate on Summer Workshop 2004. I deeply expect the Summer Workshop 2004 will help me and other regional cartoonists start making animation programs that can copy our local environments and aspects especially on the issue of rights and welfare of the Child.
