The relationship between biology, technology, and art underpins the artist’s vast interdisciplinary oeuvre, which spans painting, video art, objects, installations, robotics, and sound art. A two‑time prizewinner at the Videobrasil Festival as well as at Videoformes in France and the Melbourne International Film & Video Festival, Australia, Mercado has also exhibited at the Venice Biennale, Italy; the Museo Nacional y Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid, Spain; and at the New York Film Festival Lincoln Center, New York, USA. The artist has received residency prizes and scholarships from such institutions as the Rockefeller & MacArthur Foundation (USA) and Antorchas (Argentina). Lives and works in Köln, Germany.
