The holder of a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo, he worked with video in the 1980s, creating and directing seven experimental productions, including Falta Alguma Coisa, Duas Rainhas and Um Túmulo para Chorar, which took their cue from tales and songs. During a stint in Italy, in 1988 and 1989, he made the video La Donna della Cartolina (A Mulher do Cartão Postal). Back in Brazil he worked as a writer, reporter, editor-in-chief and assistant editor at newspaper Folha de São Paulo, between 1990 and 2000, and dedicated himself to the fine arts from 1996 onward. Since 1999 he has been a juror at fine art salons, open calls, and prizes in cities such as Piracicaba (SP), Praia Grande (SP), Curitiba (PR), Goiânia (GO), Belém (PA) and São Paulo (SP). In 2000, he wrote the catalogue text for art show Arco das Rosas – O Marchand como Curador, including a piece on the history of the art market in Brazil, and fifteen other pieces on São Paulo’s contemporary art galleries. In 2002, he created the bimonthly publication Mapa das Artes São Paulo. In 2004, he created the publication’s online version. In 2004, he launched the Rio de Janeiro edition of Mapa das Artes, issued up until 2010, amounting to a total of 28 editions. In 2011, Mapa das Artes won the 2010 Antonio Bento Prize for Best Visual Arts Publication from the ABCA (Brazilian Art Critics Association). He has curated solo exhibitions by Stephen Henriques, Egidio Rocci, Vera Goulart, Vitor Azambuja, Pitágoras Lopes Gonçalves, Rubem Ludolf, Rubem Valentim, Arnaldo Ferrari, Judith Lauand, Alberto Teixeira, João José Costa, and Antônio Maluf. He has also curated the collective shows Construtivos e Cinéticos, Olho sobre Tela, and Preto no Branco, among others. He has collaborated with magazines Bravo, Vogue, Casa Vogue, and Casa Claudia Luxo. In 2010 he launched the project Salão dos Artistas Sem Galeria, for artists unrepresented by São Paulo’s galleries. He has also curated the show Judith Lauand: Experiências, at the São Paulo Museum of Modern Art; and Paulo Von Poser’s show at Espaço Cultural BM&F, both in 2012.
