Filmmaker; lives and works in Paraíba. He defines himself as a short filmmaker, since considers the genre as a medium to be explored unto itself, rather than a mere step or phase in the learning process toward the feature film. He graduated in Communication with a major in Journalism at the Federal University of Paraíba in 1984. From 1982 to 1986 he participated in the Direct Cinema workshop of the university’s Documentary Center, a breeding ground for Paraíba-based film and video artists throughout the 1980s. He undertook a few internships on direct cinema at the Atelier de Réalisation Cinématographique Varennes in Paris. He shot his first two works in Super 8 and then switched to 16mm format in 1986. He won a prize at the 1992 Bahia International Film Journey for his video A Alma da Pedra, whose format was a consequence of the film industry crisis during the Collor administration. In 1999 he won prizes at the Gramado Film Festival, the Recife Festival, and the Festival of Brasília for his short film Passadouro. He is responsible for the project ViAção Paraíba, which holds workshops on Film and Television throughout the entire state.
