He has created one of the most poignant body of works of the 20th century. A fierce critic of dictatorship in Argentina and the Catholic Church, he worked with various media, from sculpture to engraving to photocopy, mail art, sound sculpture, performance, video, and artist book. He lived in Brazil, as an exile, from 1976 to 1991. His work has featured in retrospective shows at the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo (2006), at the MoMA, New York, and at Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid. He has featured in various editions of the Bienal de São Paulo and in the 52nd Venice Biennale (2007), where he won the Golden Lion.
