Pursuing a degree in the visual arts at the Universidade de Brasília (UnB), Maués worked as a photojournalist for over a decade. Since 2003, however, he has developed an authorial line of photography, cinema, and video that involves the construction of artisanal cameras and the use of makeshift equipment. Through the Itaú Cultural Rumos program, he received a residency scholarship to attend the Künstlerhaus Bethanien/Berlin in Germany. Among the collections featuring his work are the Pirelli‑Masp, FNAC, Videobrasil, MEP (Museu do Estado do Pará), and Coleção Joaquim Paiva.
