The work, commissioned by Associação Cultural Videobrasil, was made at the Casa Tomada residency, in São Paulo, between April and July 2011. It is part of the artist’s research on the city and the unusual relationship it forges between humdrum images and references from the history of art. The canvas is approached as a space of continuous insertion on which to record processes of creation and cohabitation. In dialogue with manifestations that strip drawing and painting of their artistic character—graffiti, tags, writing on public lavatories—, the artist invited friends and artists to collaborate on the work, filling it up with “noise.”
