Suggestive of some geographic boundary or watercourse, a hose meanders across the shot as it fills a swimming pool. Writhing under the water pressure, it dances its own automatic but dramatic ballet, punctuated with moments of rapture and pause. The pane of glass through which the image is seen replicates its pattern in the exhibition space. Nascente is part of a set of works that resulted from the artist’s encounters with happenstance. The cut that defines the composition lends new density to the image while conferring a whole other meaning upon such an unspectacular event.
