Performance is the core theme of the essays of this first edition of “Caderno Videobrasil,” an Associação Cultural Videobrasil and SESC São Paulo release. The idea of this publication is to propose an alternative to the genre’s official history, covering a timespan that stretches from Brazilian modernism up to projects representative of current art from Latin America and the Middle East. The first edition contains essays by the art critics Guy Brett and Luiz Camillo Osório, articles from the Lebanese historian Rasha Salti, from the artist Ricardo Basbaum, and psychoanalyst Suely Rolnik, the script for an audio performance signed by the American performer Coco Fusco and Guillermo Gómez-Peña and an exclusive interview with the Serbian performance artist Marina Abramovic. An annual publication, the priority of the “Caderno” is to promote and disseminate specialist theoretical research and recent artistic production.
