Salt is the raw material for the artist’s piece featured in the Festival’s 18th edition. According to Melo, the work is a depiction of the productive poetic conflict situations she has achieved using the substance, ever since she began doing research on it in 2011, when she attempted to make drawings submersed in the ocean using watercolor pencils. She also explains how she explores salt’s repeated transformations – liquefaction and ultimately crystallization – to provoke an updating of artwork in space.
