The artist from Rio gives a statement about the painting shown at the 18th Festival, from her De Areia series. She discusses the piece’s origin – an unfinished illustration project for Rilke’s Duino Elegies. Though incomplete, these drawings led the artist to revisit the romantic notion of the artwork as a combination of external landscape and the painter’s inner universe. According to Klabin, in this regime, landscape is employed as a platform for a discourse on the subject’s intimacy, but also on abstract issues, such as those posed by physics. She also recounts how her path led from video to painting.
