First steps of the board of curators of Festival's 30th-anniversary edition

The board of curators for the 18th International Contemporary Art Festival SESC_Videobrasil, who will work alongside curator general Solange Farkas, includes three young curators: Fernando Oliva, an independent curator whose background includes São Paulo’s Museu da Imagem e do Som (MIS-São Paulo), Centro Cultural São Paulo (CCSP), and São Paulo’s Museu de Arte Moderna (MAM-São Paulo); Julia Rebouças, a member of the curatorial team at Instituto Inhotim, in Brumadinho, in the state of Minas Gerais; and Thereza Farkas, cofounder and codirector of Casa Tomada, in São Paulo. The two remaining members are also curatorial board members at the Associação Cultural Videobrasil: Eduardo de Jesus, a professor at the Minas Gerais State’s Pontifícia Universidade Católica (PUC-MG); and Marcos Moraes, professor and coordinator of the Armando Alvares Penteado Foundation (FAAP) Artistic Residency Program.

Based on discussions of the Festival’s main challenges and goals, and considering past editions and experiences, the board is outlining a series of innovations for the show’s upcoming edition, due in the second half of 2013, which will mark its 30th anniversary. The very configuration of the board’s work has changed: the six curators will select the artworks submitted, and introduce tensions and articulations into the show by inviting artists whose work may add to the proposed topics of reflection. “This will add weight to the curatorial concept and enable the show to be split into segments, for which we may even invite other curators,” explains the curator general.

The call for entries will be issued in July. Expect more news soon.
