On November 6, beginning at 9:30 am, Thereza Farkas, the programming director of Associação Cultural Videobrasil, will take part in the Funarte Seminar on Artist Residencies. The Seminar will foster debate on artist residencies, featuring visual arts and culture production and management professionals, in a program of conferences, panels and laboratories.

Laboratory of Experiences 4 will explore “Reflections on the preservation of artistic memory in a residency,” featuring delegates from Videobrasil, the Sacatar Institute (a Videobrasil Residency Program partner organization) and Ponto de Cultura Rural (Rural Culture Spot).

Funarte understands the relevance of artist residencies to the new processes of visual artists’ creating and spreading their art and improving themselves; therefore, it believes discussions during the Seminar can help tailor public policies for said residencies.

Associação Cultural Videobrasil has been doing groundbreaking work in sponsoring artist exchange since 1988. “Even before the idea of residency programs as we know them, already we were offering prizes that facilitated the transit of artists,” says Thereza Farkas. Through the Videobrasil Residency Program, Associação fosters connections and exchange between artists, partner organizations and communities in Brazil and the world over. “Aside from encouraging the displacement of artists, the Videobrasil Residency Program is designed to build a collaborative network between organizations,” Farkas asserts.

Registration for the Funarte Seminar on Artist Residencies is free of charge but seats are limited. The Seminar will be broadcast online on the Funarte website and made available later on Funarte’s Youtube channel. To see the full program and other participants in the Seminar, click here.
