The We Are What We Lost travelling festival features Videobrasil Collection works in sessions on November at the Kunsthalle São Paulo, the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo and at .Aurora

In partnership with the European art network OuUnPo (Ouvroir d’Univers Potentiels), Associação Cultural Videobrasil is presenting three video programs on November 11, 12 and 14 at the Kunsthalle São Paulo, the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo and the .Aurora. The sessions are part of the We Are What We Lost travelling festival, lasting ten days (from November 7 to 16) and exploring how loss and disappearance influence the present and converse with the past.

Videobrasil Collection artworks have been selected based on issues proposed by the OuUnPo and divided into three themes: “Art and Rite,” featuring works by Ayrson Heráclito, Eder Santos and Paulo Cesar Soares; “When the Creole Dances,” featuring Dilma Lóes’ namesake video Quando o Crioulo Dança; and “Projected Cities”, with pieces by Gusztáv Hámos and Lea Van Steen in partnership with Raquel Kogan.

We Are What We Lost was organized by the OuUnPo in collaboration with Brazilian artists, researchers and organizations. The festival features conversations, video screenings, workshops and performances in various locations throughout the city of São Paulo. This action wraps up the “Catastrophe & Heritage” cycle initiated by the OuUnPo in 2012, in a bid to investigate how crises and conflicts affect the formation of identities. Prior to São Paulo, the art network has held activation actions in Beirut, Lebanon (2012), Tokyo, Japan (2013) and Gibellina, Italy (2014).

Organized by the curator and researcher Sara Giannini (Italy/Holland) and by the artist Per Huttner (Sweden/France), the event in Brazil is particularly interested in how colonization has influenced the subsequent development of traditions, beliefs and hybrid practices.

The video programs designed by Associação Cultural Videobrasil for the Festival are closely tied the Unerasable Memories – a historic look at the videobrasil collection exhibition, showing at Sesc Pompeia until November 30. Curated by Agustín Pérez Rubio, the exhibition attests to art’s power in fighting historical amnesia.
