Videobrasil will be featured at a seminar in Barbados, promoted by Arc Magazine and Fresh Milk, designed to broaden access to contemporary art from the Caribbean region

On February 28 (Saturday), the director of Associação Cultural Videobrasil, Solange Farkas, will be featured in the seminar Tilting Axis: Within and Beyond the Caribbean – Shifting Models of Sustainability and Connectivity, in Barbados. The event is held the Caribbean art and culture magazine ARC and by Fresh Milk – an interdisciplinary space run by local artists.

The seminar is intended to foster debate between Caribbean visual arts practitioners and professionals and networks and organizations from across the geopolitical South, in a bid to increase the access of said artists to the vast global contemporary art scenario. Farkas will speak in the session “The Caribbean and Beyond: Part 1,” designed to discuss how the Caribbean is perceived on the international art circuit, and to explore strategies for cultural exchange with the region, such as festivals, cultural associations, and residency networks.

In 2014, the relevant number of artworks and projects entered by Caribbean artists into the 19th Contemporary Art Festival Sesc_Videobrasil (hailing from countries like Martinique, Barbados, Haiti, Bahamas, the Dominican Republic, Guadalupe, Cuba and Puerto Rico) represented Associação’s growing connection with productions from this part of the global South, to which it imparts special attention. Besides Videobrasil, the event’s partners include the Res Artis network, the Perez Art Museum Miami, the Prince Claus Fund, and the Davidoff Art Initiative.
