Visual artist and filmmaker. She graduated in Cinema from École Nationale Supérieure des Métiers de l'Image et du Son, La Fémis, in 2006. Botkay makes photos and films using cell phone, video and Super 8, 16 mm and 35 mm film cameras, whose films she develops manually herself. Her films, permeated by silence and shot in countries like Haiti, Congo, Niger, Chad, Netherlands, France and Brazil, approach cultural syncretism in postcolonial context, exploring the ways in which the filmic device unveils the visible. Her works have been shortlisted and awarded in festivals and exhibits at venues such as Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, São Francisco, USA (2013); the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro (2013); the São Paulo International Short film Festival (2011); Festival Janela Internacional de Recife (2011 and 2010); and others. Louise Botkay lives and works between Rio de Janeiro and Paris.
