Visual artist, researcher and professor, graduated from Akademia and Arteve, Tirana. He produces mainly videos and installations, but also photography, performance, painting and sculpture. He moved to Milan, Italy, in 1997 – fleeing violence in his native country – and dedicates a good part of his work to themes related to exile: geographical separation, memory, belonging and the mutability of life and art. He often appears in his own videos, as well as his family members, in imagined situations that blend with the harshness of everyday life. He has recently held solo shows at the Haifa Museum of Art, Israel (2022); Kunsthalle Krems, Austria (2019); and participated in group shows at the Venice Architecture Biennale (2014); at the biennials in Lyon, France, and Havana, Cuba (2011); the Tate Modern, London, England (2008); and at MoMA PS1, New York, USA (2005). He lives in Milan.
