Visual artist graduated from the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas Rafael Rodríguez Padilla, Guatemala City. A native of the Maya Tzʼutujil people, he works especially with weaving, but also with installation, painting and video. His investigation is largely based on the culture and symbols of his people, based in the Lake Atitlan region, and presents a constant look at collective experiences and actions. As the artist points out, he learned weaving from his mother, a practice usually associated with women in the Tzʼutujil culture. He had recent solo shows at La Nueva Fábrica, Santa Ana, Guatemala (2022); Hessel Museum of Art, Dutchess, USA (2022); and participated in group shows at the Denver Art Museum, USA (2022); the Kathmandu Triennale, Nepal (2022); and the 11th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art, among others. He lives in San Pedro La Laguna.
