He was a visual artist, designer and curator. He studied free painting with Ivan Serpa, at the Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro, and was a guest researcher at the Cardiff School of Art & Design, Wales. Alongside Luciano Figueiredo, he produced experimental works in graphic arts, such as the graphic project for the magazine “Navilouca,” by the poets Torquato Neto and Waly Salomão. He designed album covers for Gal Costa, Caetano Veloso, Maria Bethânia, among others. He worked as production designer in such films as O Gigante da América, Menino do Rio, Além da Paixão and Tainá. He collaborated in films by Ivan Cardoso, including O Escorpião Escarlate, which earned him the Kikito Award in that category at the 1990 Gramado Film Festival. He also served as curator of Paço da Liberdade, Manaus. His works have been featured in shows at the 10th and 11th São Paulo Biennials (1969, 1971); Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, Rio de Janeiro (1998); Paço Imperial, Rio de Janeiro (1999, 2001, 2004); Carreau du Temple, Paris, France (2005); and Instituto Tomie Ohtake, São Paulo (2007).
