A director, producer, and film and television screenwright, Paulo Morelli was a part of the Brazilian independent video generation. The holder of a degree in architecture from the University of São Paulo’s School of Architecture and Urbanism (FAUUSP), Morelli founded the production company Olhar Eletrônico in the early 1980s. The company experimented with new ways of producing videos and news reports. During that period he directed the short films Tragédia - SP (1986), Do Outro Lado da sua Casa (1985), Ali Baba (1984, a prize-winner at the 2nd Videobrasil Festival, 1984), among others. In 1991, with Fernando Meirelles, he established film and advertisement company O2 Filmes. Lápide (1997), the first short film he directed under the new company, won Best Film prizes at 4 different festivals. Morelli directed the feature films City of Men (2007), Speaker Phone (2004) (Best International Film at the New York Independent Film Festival), and The Price of Peace (2003) (named Best Film by the Audience Juries at the Gramado and Tiradentes festivals). He recently created the script analysis software StoryTouch. Lives and works in São Paulo.
