Musician and videomaker. Completed a degree in Music at the Victorian College of the Arts of the University of Melbourne in 1985. There, she also pursued a specialization in Composition in 1989, and has earned widespread recognition in the field since. She is specialized in Audio at the Australian Film, Television & Radio School in Sydney. Regarded as one of the leading Australian composers active today, she stands apart from her generation and their heavy influence from the American minimalism of Steve Reich and Phillip Glass. She, on the other hand, is interested in various other musical styles, and works to stretch the boundaries of what is habitually called classical music. She looks up to myriad artists: Laurie Anderson, Michel Legrand, Nick Cave, Jaques Brel, Angelo Baddalamenti, and Enio Morricone. In addition to concert halls, she creates works for TV, cinema, performances and theater plays. In 2004 she premiered Dreaming Transportation, a musical, at the Sydney International Festival of the Arts. Acclaimed by critics and audiences alike, the show featured at the prestigious Sydney Opera House, which has hosted many of her works since. She has won several prizes.
