Graduated in Fine Arts from the California Institute for Arts, in the city of Valencia, in 1979. He straddles different languages, including video, sculpture, installation, performance and painting. He is involved in the music scene and has worked with David Bowie on two occasions, having been responsible for the singer’s 50th anniversary tour, and for the video for the song Where are we now. His work constantly alludes to an oneiric universe of ghostlike figures, as seen emblematically in the site specific Crossed Circuits: Norte Sul. Leste Oeste, made through a partnership between the São Paulo Museum of Modern Art and Centre Georges Pompidou. In the piece, images projected onto trees in Ibirapuera Park gave shape to idiosyncratic characters representing the four cardinal points. He has featured in shows at various museums, galleries and events around the world, such as the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis; Documenta IX in Kassel; Museum of Modern Art in New York; Whitney Museum of American Art in New York; Carnegie Musem of Art in Pittsburgh; Museum Ludwig in Cologne; and the Tate in Liverpool. Lives and works in New York.
