Video artist and advertising, fiction and documentary filmmaker. She has directed ads since 1991, when she departed from the MTV Brazil creative team. She has worked with renowned production companies in São Paulo and won prizes for her short films and visual arts pieces, such as Reprodução Proibida (2007), winner of the Sergio Motta Art and Technology Prize, 2008; and the video installation Ponte (2008), winner of the 2011 Funarte Contemporary Art Prize, at Estação Funarte de Artes Visuais Belo Horizonte, both made in partnership with Raquel Kogan. Van Steen has featured in exhibitions such as: Reencontres Paris/Berlin/Madrid – Nouveau Cinéma & Art Contemporain, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris (2011); Eletrônika Festival, Palácio das Artes, Belo Horizonte (2011); II Art and Technology Festival in Recife (2010); Geografias Celulares, Spacio Fundación Telefonica, Lima, Peru (2010); 7th Mercosul Biennial, Porto Alegre (2009); Artemov 2008; 13th Digital Art and International Culture Festival in Gran Canaria, Spain (2008); Video Festival, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid, Spain (2008); and Experiências da Imagem, Itaú Cultural, São Paulo (2007).
