Walid Raad is a media artist and an assistant professor of art with Cooper Union (New York, USA). Raad’s works to date include video, photography, and literary essays. The Lebanese civil war and its representations in the West are the main theme in his work. Known for the Atlas Group, a project of reconstitution of the photographic memory of Lebanon which he created in 1999, participated in important exhibitions such as the Documenta of Kassel (Germany), the Kunsten Festival des Arts (Belgium) and the Whitney Biennale (New York). Walid Raad is also a member of the Arab Image Foundation (www.fai.org.lb) and a founding member of The Atlas Group (www.theatlasgroup.org). He lives and works in Beirut, Lebanon.
