The video is part of a larger work, the Vostok project – which also comprises a book (made up of photographs that create a narrative) and an album (of the soundtrack composed by Rossano Snell) – born out of an artist residency Ramos completed in the South Pole. This piece simulates the exploration of lakes covered by thick layers of ice, as scientists from Russia’s Vostok station (set in the heart of the Antarctic) look for still unknown life forms. The plot weaves its way through inhospitable landscapes, straddling a thin line between fiction and document.
