The video shows a group of men. The contrast between the black bodies and the light background is enhanced by the black and white image, as well as by the white puffed skirts compared to the bare, thin backs. Lying down, the men move to get up, but do not complete the action: before they stand, the video reverses the movement, returning them to their initial position, in which, however, they do not remain. The slow-motion loop transforms incomplete actions into a dance in which boredom, anticipation, frustration and beauty complement each other. The title suggests the irony of this hopeful impasse, and is part of the Tswana proverb “Phiri o rile ga bose gangwe,” which can be loosely translated as, “The hyena said: dawn does not come only once.”
