In this work the artist simulates a live stream on his YouTube channel in which a video shows an action while the artist posts messages into the chat box next to it. The site, one of the best-known and most widely used in the world, became even more popular during the pandemic and lockdown because it enabled meetings and communication in a virtual environment through “lives” streamed into homes worldwide. His research conducted during the quarantine period, and news of the eruption of the Cumpre Vieja volcano in Spain in 2022 (which lasted nearly three months) stirred up childhood memories in Montelli, and he uses these as a point of departure for his work. The tragic atmosphere of these collective events echoes his childhood impressions on his own experiences. Gradually, the split times of image and message begin to blend, live, into a narrative that reveals very individual reflections on social, political, and cultural issues prevalent in contemporary society.
