Record of the writer reading his poem Echo chamber , published in the book Algaravias: Echo chamber (1996, english edition in 2016).
I grew up under a peaceful lair
My dream was just a little dream of mine.
I was trained in the science of care.
Now, between my being and the other being,
The border line has disappeared.
(translation by Maryam Monalisa Gharavi)
With a strong, expressive voice, Salomão cyclically reads the short poem, which taps into a lyric of near intimacy. Refusing the idea of fixed identity of a self, the poet asserts the inherent decentering of the relation relationship between the subject and the world, and the constitutive alterity of every identity. The record was made by the artist Carlos Nader and included in the documentary Nomadismos: Homenagem a Waly Salomão (2003).
