The artist talks about his early contacts with cinema, while still a child, in the countryside of the state of Paraíba. According to him, his work as a video artist is a continuation of his pictorial work as a painter and engraver. He also talks about how easy the production and diffusion of video is, since there is no need for intermediation, via the internet and social media networks, and the ease of autonomous storage and building of collections. He says “the artist trains the eye by using his feet.” By dislocating him/herself, the artist’s view is able to capture from reality what may become significant in an art piece. He also discusses his work Espécimens II, shown at the 18th edition of the show. Born out of observing homeless people and people in urban settlements in the city of João Pessoa, his work was also developed in São Paulo, during the artist’s participation in the 17th Festival. On this occasion, he photographed a group of people along the sidewalks near the hotel he was staying at.
