The artist discusses a turnaround in her career, in 2012, after which she developed the series of paintings shown at the 18th edition of the Festival. She reveals a few of her references for the series, some of which originated from her work as a restorer at Museu Imperial, while others came from her reading the novel Alice in the Wonderland, and from the paintings of Portugal’s Paula Rego, whose work is also marked by a relationship with literature. According to her, having had access to the royal family collection’s storage area enabled her a greater awareness of the fantasies contained in her productions, allowing her to further explore imageries. She also talks about the importance of fiction in her paintings, the choice of colors, and the female figures, always omnipotent and omnipresent.
