“Everyone has traded God for facts.” Facts simply rectify that which someone is already expecting, according to the artist, who was awarded an honorable mention at the 2013 Festival. In this statement he also discusses the series he has been developing for over 10 years – of which his award-winning video 9493 is a part – on the subject of indifference. He says he sees it in two different ways: as nature’s fundamental indifference towards man; and as the indifference from man towards his environment. He believes a way out of this situation – which seems insoluble – could be indifference towards indifference. According to him, this stance could bring about new meanings, beyond the way we address one another in daily life. He talks about the differences between making political art and making art politically, a subtle distinction in principle, but one that bears major consequences. Marcellvs sees a difference between the artist who surrenders to the facts and the commonplace signs of communication, and the artist who ventures out into disorder. He also discusses the importance of the Festival to his career.
