Involved with the Festival since 1990, the French curator and researcher discusses the evolution of video in the past few decades. According to him, the main concern of video art and other art forms has shifted from a quest for the specificities of languages toward attempts at building small “pieces of coherence.” Thus, the Frenchman believes the strong interchange between different languages currently taking place is a bid to create meaning in a ruined world. He also reminisces on the career development of Brazilian artists he helped launch internationally, such as Sandra Kogut and Eder Santos, and comments on the exchanges and reflections brought about by the festivals.
