A member of Coletivo Madeirista, Joéser Alvarez relates the origin of the group’s name, established in a manifesto signed by its members in the late 1990s, taking their cue from the Madeira River that bathes the city of Porto Velho. In it, the allusion to the river’s flow was converted into a metaphor for impermanence and a constant flow and dialogue. The artist also addresses the relationship between poetry and landscape, in which she envisions possibilities of interchange between words and images. He also touches on the daily coexistence with the mystical and the magical in riverside communities, but also in urban living in the Rondônia state capital, with its typical religious practices.
