On discussing how he felt like an exile when his parents were driven out of Zimbabwe, the artist acknowledges the political overtones in his art, especially with regard to the immigrant condition. He comments on his installations, which feature what he calls “immigrant bags.” Finally, he describes his Untitled (Zimbabwean Queen of Rave), from 2005, in which he opposes images of white men dancing and of black men protesting. The piece won the Capacete Residency Prize (Brazil/RJ) during the 16th Festival.
