In a bid to investigate the potential and particular reactions of each spectator while visiting an exhibition, 6 people were selected via an open call to participate in Carolina Mendonça’s performance Público, one of the activation actions of the 18th Contemporary Art Festival Sesc_Videobrasil On Tour program at Sesc São Carlos (São Paulo).
Mendonça observed visitors at the exhibition and proposed for the performers to interfere with their routes in subtle ways, while respecting their rhythms, coaxing them into coming to the desired conclusions. Following the performance, all of the participants engaged in conversation with the audience. During the debate, the performers recounted their experiences during the On Tour action and answered questions from attendees. Both the action and the debate are part of the Festival’s Public Programs.
Carolina Mendonça (São Paulo, 1984) straddles performance, visual arts, theater and dancing. Her works have been featured in the Sesc Arts Show (2012) and at the Prague Quadrennial (2011).
