Description:
One of the artists featured in the 19th Festival’s Southern Panoramas | Guest Artists exhibit, Rodrigo Matheus discusses his Mauser & Cia, created especially for the event. A site-specific installation, it arose from research into the history of the building that houses Sesc Pompeia, in São Paulo, where the exhibition took place. Evoking the factory past of the facility and its surrounding neighborhood, the artist puts forth a proposition of somehow retaining the ghostlike images that beset the building’s memory. He also goes over the creative process for the installation and the importance of time perceptions both during conception and in the final result on display. Contextualizing the piece within his output, he stresses how it is a development of his inquiries into industrial objects and their forms of circulation in the world. Finally, pondering on his insertion relative to the other artists in the show – devoted to prominent Southern axis figures –, he asserts that his piece is a moment of conflation, within the exhibition, of different geopolitical realities.
