The artist talks about her works Ensaio Ilú Obá de Min and Escolas which were awarded with a residency prize at Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art at the 20th Contemporary Art Festival Sesc_Videobrasil. The video records a rehearsal of the afro percussion group, exclusively composed of women, which makes open performances that temporarily transform the face of public spaces in São Paulo, engaging the excluded population of the city. The video Escolas features a sequence of photographs of the occupations and protests, which turned state-neglected schools into spaces of dynamic and powerful interaction. The artist states that “we see the body even in its absence.”
