The group ALTO AMAZONAS AUDIOVISUAL is formed by Lucinho Tavares Winih Kanamari (Aldeia São Luís, Atalaia do Norte, 1993), vice president of AKAVAJA (Kanamari Association); Shapu Mëo Matis (Aldeia Parayso, Atalaia do Norte, 1991), an indigenous teacher and photographer; and Markus Enk (Fortaleza, 1993), an social environmental scientist and visual anthropologist. The group was born from the meeting of Markus and Shapu during the former’s period of graduate studies in cultural anthropology at the University of Leiden (Netherlands). In 2018 the pair was joined by Winih Kanamari when his people were protesting against the neglect of indigenous health care by government officials in the region. Thus was formed the collective that discusses issues such as media sovereignty, collaborative work methodologies and the links between creativity and resistance.
The videoinstallation ABOUT CAMERAS, SPIRITS AND OCCUPATIONS: A MONTAGE-ESSAY TRIPTYCH (2018) is a triptych divided into three complementary short films. The documentary aims not only to denounce oppressive situations or exotic glimpses, but also to reflect on how short films like these are interconnected, especially regarding complementarity that cannot be heard or seen. For example, in preparing their works, are anthropologists and filmmakers trying to affect bodies and transform their state of mind, in the manner of healers and shamans?
