In the indigenous culture of the Maya Tz'utujil people of Guatemala, women are responsible for making textiles. Recoding the tradition he learned from his mother, Antonio Pichilla Quiacain develops a wide variety of works.

At the Sesc_Videobrasil Biennial, he is showing three textile works. "Abuela" [grandmother] brings reverence for female wisdom in its title, and is characterized by twists and a subtle play of colors. "Semilla" [seed] and "Cuatro puntos cardinales" [four cardinal points] play with the contrast between wool yarns, the color black and small red dots. The elements contained in the names take us back to the Earth, to space, to the landscape.
