A series of silk prints features images of people crying at the colossal funerals of totalitarian leaders, each framed by a curtain of metal chains. "Crying People", by Isaac Chong Wai, treads the fine line between the dramatic and the spectacularly exaggerated.
In the works, the artist creates shadows of artificial tears on the faces of the mourners with silkscreen printing, indicating the almost comic impasse between the exhaustion of emotional labor and the emotions staged by the state.
