Fear, unease, curiosity and impatience. These are perhaps the main sensations that come to mind when watching "Thouma ya'ti al zalam / Then came dark", by Marie-Rose Osta. The video takes a poetic approach to dusk in a forest in the mountains of Lebanon, a place that, since the children's tales of the country's oral tradition, has been seen as a metaphor for the unconscious.
When the characters, always supporting characters in relation to the forest, burst onto the scene driving a blue vehicle, we are surprised that there are no roads leading to the place. This raises the key question of suspense films: what is going to happen? The time of the action is diluted into a wait.
